If I could count the amount of times I get asked "what diet do you recommend?" or "why are carbs bad?" or, the absolute worst, "what do I need to do to lose 15 pounds in 30 days?!" This whole concept of a "diet" has become such a misunderstood concept that I'm convinced it's the reason people are having a tough time losing weight and keeping it off. Yes, there are fad diets and yes, they are not sustainable - we all know that. But if you dig deeper, you will see that the reason these fad diets don't go very far is because everyone is looking for an easy way out. People hear what works for others and they immediately want to jump on the bandwagon and are convinced it will work for them, i.e. "OMG my friend just lost 7 pounds going vegan...I'm going to go vegan!" I'm TOTALLY guilty of this too...I've probably given at least 98 diets a shot. What we fail to understand is the concept of bioindividuality, which is the idea that everybody is different because every BODY is different. What works for you may not work for me. What might be feeding my body might be poison for yours.
I'm not going to get too deep into this topic (it's one I LOVE to talk about with my clients!), but I will tell you that listening to your body is probably the first step to achieving health and moving toward overall wellness. Fad diets and quick fixes don't even give you the chance to listen to your body because we are all in such a rush for those results. If you're looking for sustainable results and overall wellness that goes beyond just fitting into your teeny bikini for your upcoming Cancun trip, you have to commit to yourself and take the time to understand your body. Understanding your body is the first step toward achieving your wellness goals. Sometimes it's tough to do this on your own...that's why working with a health coach can be a good idea for you to start. Share your thoughts on experimenting with your body below!
